Parent Resource Centre Drop-In

Parents, caregivers and your preschool children (ages birth to 6) are invited to visit the Parent Resource Centre Drop-In to have a break from your normal routine, connect with other parents and caregivers, browse the resource library and play with your child. Adults are responsible for their children at the Drop-In; there is no childcare.

(There are other great options for getting out of the house with your children: Check out the playgroup section and other Ottawa drop-ins section of this website.)

Location

The Drop-In at the Parent Resource Centre is located at 300 Goulburn Private (an extension of Goulburn Ave.) in Sandy Hill. See map and directions.

The Drop-In is a bright and sunny space designed to encourage play and social conversations.

  • Simple crafts and special activities are available daily, as well as a climber and ride-on toys.
  • Large couches safely surround a baby area providing a cozy and stimulating environment for parents and infants and a place for preschool children to enjoy a quiet story.
  • Dramatic play opportunities abound in our dress up corner and play kitchen.
  • Participation and cooperation is integral to this program. Adults and children alike are encouraged to tidy and maintain the drop-in as well as join in during circle time.
  • Circle time takes place every morning around 11 a.m., for the adults and children, featuring songs, finger plays, rhymes, puppets and stories.

Networks of support develop and friendships grow among both adults and children. The Parent-Child Educator provides information about children's health and development, discipline strategies and childcare choices plus many other topics of interest to parents and caregivers. She lends a sympathetic ear, refers parents to other professionals and agencies and problem solves with parents who are struggling with a particular concern.
